NORTH CENTRAL UNIT

Greetings!
My name is N. Rebecca Frye, LCSW and I am excited to be the new Unit Chair for the North Central of NASW here in FL. Our unit consists of 10 total counties (i.e., Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Suwannee, and Union).
A little bit about me: I am a therapist in private practice and work virtually with clients around the state of Florida. Prior to private practice, I worked around the Southeast in the VA system as well as in hospice social work. I have enjoyed living and working in the North Florida area for the last ten years.
Our state is very active these days regarding public and social policy, and we know that NASW will be leading the charge on many issues that affect our clients. I want to try and energize our unit towards professional growth, community alliance building, mutual support and fun! To do this I need your help and input.
What kinds of things do you want to see? What opportunities would you like me to work on creating or getting created for us? How can we work hard and yet still have fun? These are some of the questions I am asking myself so I am asking you as well. I believe I am here to serve you and so let me know what you would like to see from me as well. I will be continuing to work these questions and hope that as we get some good answers, we also get to know each other a little more and can help Dawn Brown make NASW Florida the premier organization in our wonderful regulation body.

GET INVOLVED! We are looking for you! There are several opportunities to get more actively involved, no matter where you are within the unit or what may be of interest to you as a focus area, including: CCNLI Chair, Legislative Chair, and much, much more! If you are a long-time member of our unit, we would LOVE to hear from you! What have been your favorite times within our unit? What can we do to maintain your passion?
If you have previous involvement in our unit but no longer participate at the same level, we would LOVE to hear from you and reconnect! Tell us what you loved. Tell us what encouraged you to participate. Tell us what you would love to see and what community alliances you are aware of that were previously established that we should reinvigorate. And, should you have experienced hardship, no matter the cause, we want to help and we would LOVE to hear from you!
If you have recently moved within our region, we would LOVE to hear from you! Tell us what you loved and what worked or didn't work in your previous location. Give us your wisdom and join us to utilize what you have learned in past experience to help us here and now.
If you are simply new to, or interested in, NASW, we would LOVE to hear from you! Tell us what drew you to our amazing organization or the profession in general. Tell us your expectations and how you may be willing to join us to ensure those expectations are met for each and every member.
Come one, come all, come SOCIAL WORKERS! We LOVE our profession! NASW-FL is here to help you every step of the way in your career, whether a student, intern, public or private practitioner, educator, early in your career, midway, or a retired professional. We can ALL make a difference and contribute as little or as much as time allows. Whatever your passion in social work, we have a place for you!
