We want to start by wishing everyone the Happiest of Social Work month!

We are so proud to be able to celebrate and honor social workers in the Broward, especially our Broward Award Winners on March 19th from 6 to 8 pm. We will be raffling off student memberships, hearing from our sponsor The Law Office of Stephanie Schneider, and we are going to have a guided workshop with Dr. Heidi Heft-LaPorte!

In addition, we are honored to help sponsor The Law Office of Stephanie Schneider' March 24th virtual mixer for all social workers! There will be opportunities to network, BINGO, Drink Demonstrations and Prizes! The event is $5 but all proceeds will benefit  PACE center for girls. Registration information is on the right side.

I wanted to also take a second to honor not only our 2021 winners but our 2020 wonders who, because of COVID-19, were never officially honored.

Our 2020 Winners are:
Dr. Precious Skinner- Osei, Social Work Educator of the Year
Donna Bello, Social Worker of the Year

Our 2021 Winners are:
Sophia Loubeau, Educator of the Year
Veronica Latchman, Social Worker of the Year
Neal Sinha, Student of the Year
Dr. Mitch Rosenwald, Legislative Official of the Year
Brielle Roundtree, Public Citizen of the Year

While we cannot honor everyone, we want to take a second to thank all of you in our NASW-Broward unit and all of our unsung heroes that have persevered through one of the most trying years of our lives! We at NASW-Broward strive our best to support y'all and create events that are supportive to you and if there's any way that we can promote something of specific interest for you, please let us know! That said we have some invite exciting events coming up before the rest of the year and we look forward to sharing that information with you!

We want to take a second, while we're acknowledging the work of NASW-Broward, to mention that we have some open volunteer positions that we would love to fill with members that are able to volunteer their times! The open positions for NASW-Broward are:

  • Unit secretary
  • CCNLI Chair
  • BSW student representative beginning in May!

The final thing we want to take a second to bring up is that we are entering our fourth month of our new peer support group, "Are we experts yet?" Our April meeting theme will be LICENSURE! For those that are still in school or are already Registered Clinical Social Work Interns and are preparing for the exam, we're going to talk logistics! We are so privileged to have Susan Mankita, NASW-FL's President and Owner of Sweet Grindstone, A Professional Development Company for the Human Services that includes LICENSURE PREP! Susan has helped hundreds of people pass the ACSW exam and we are so excited to have her speak and answer questions April 1st, 2021, at 6:00pm.

Again, Happy Social Work Month from us at NASW-Broward!
