Vicki Rosenthal Art, LLC
As a macro practice social worker, last year I started my own human rights art business, www.VickiRosenthal.art. With 15 years of advocating for marginalized and oppressed populations, I am continuing my life's work through visual art highlighting human rights issues to create conversations for social change.
Additionally, I continue direct activism through marches, communication with legislators, and volunteering. Presently, I have been volunteering for Friends of Broward Detainees, an organization that assists asylum seekers in detention centers being held under zero-tolerance immigration policies.
With the U.S. Government breaking national and international laws for asylum-seekers, this volunteer opportunity allows me to generate my commitment to social justice by providing dignity and worth to asylum seekers. This zero-tolerance policy has overwhelmed our immigration legal and judicial systems. Many persons seeking asylum are not even getting an attorney to represent them. There are many gaps in our system and the Friends of Broward Detainees give an opportunity to fill some of these gaps by serving these individuals.
In combating the U.S. Government's illegal actions against asylum seekers, NASW National has condemned President Trump's actions and NASW-FL has taken direct action in creating an Immigration Justice Task Force to push back on harmful legislative policies. In upholding the ethical principals of social work, we, as social workers, have a responsibility to take action - be the leaders against injustice and the abuse of human rights.
Are you a social work Leader? NASW Broward Unit has positions available for a leadership role on our steering committee. We are looking for Student Representatives, Unit Co-Chair, and a Membership Chair. If you are interested in being a social work Leader and being on the NASW Broward steering committee contact firstname.lastname@example.org .
